Covert more visitors.

You've got a web site and it has traffic but you could be turning lots of visitors away without even knowing it. Here is a list of things that will help you keep the visitors you have worked so hard to earn. These steps are proven to improve critical website metrics like visitor time spent on a page, number of pages looked at per visit and much more..

A conversion check list

1. Fast load times. Make sure your web site is loading fast and is not hosted on a free service like geocities. Making a visitor wait will make them leave.

2. Look professional. If you can afford it have your site designed by a professional graphic/web designer. Clean clear design is KEY to giving a good impression for your music. Before they can hear you they will see you and if they don't like what they see they probably won't stay long enough to hear.

3. To the point. Who are you and why should I care? If you can answer this question quickly and clearly you'll have a better chance of resonating with your visitor. Its a good idea to have a catch line or phrase that quickly and clearly describes your music to the visitor and is prominently displayed on your site.

4. Clear navigation. Make sure you have a well organized centrally located navigation area for your site. It should be easy to get to anywhere you want in the site from any page on the web site. If someone clicks to a section but doesn't know how to get around from there- they'll probably go elsewhere.

5. Privacy policy. Your music website should have a privacy policy. Let the visitor know what you intend to do with their email address, and let them know if you do or do not collect any private data from them as they browse your site. Even if they never click the page to see your policy it adds to your credibility if you have one available.

6. Grammar and spelling. Make sure you remove all bad grammar and spelling mistakes from your website. This is a detraction from your content that you don't need.

7. Place your most important info "above the fold". "Above the fold" means the information that will appear on your visitors web browser before they have to scroll. And it's true a large percentage of visitors still have small screen resolutions of 640 x 480 or 800 x 600. So prioritize. Test your site by setting your monitor to several resolutions and see what and what doesn't make the fold. Visitors will scroll, but the first things they see are in the top portion of the site!

8. Offer different payment options. Do you offer credit cards? Paypal? Google Checkout? Mail in a check? CDBaby? The more payment options you offer the more sales you will have. By increasing payment options you eliminate customer objections.

9. Include your contact information. Make sure the visitor can get in touch with you if they need to. Giving out your contact information will increase visitor confidence and make them more likely to buy a CD. No one wants to buy something from someone they can't communicate with. Keep the lines open and reap the benefits.

10. Testimonials. Let your customers sell your music for you. If someone says something positive about your music let your visitors know about it. Reviews from legitimate music sources are the most valuable testimonials you can get, but don't forget about what your customers say about you.
