Music Promotion and Music Publicity

music promotion

The hoopla over the new MySpace Music is over...
The question is, has anything really changed for
the indie artist?

  1.   We did a little research and found out a few things:

    1.  Yes there's "official" participation from major artists and labels(yawn)

    2.  Yep the online distributors Ioda and The Orchard are on board  (yeah great)

    3.  Download feature was SnoCap, is now proprietary feature of MySpace Music player (whatever).

    4.  There's even ad-revenue sharing with major label artists (sorry indies)

The bottom line is, despite all the praises heaped on the indie artist from MySpace exec's (..."The independent music community has been a cornerstone of MySpace Music..."), the new MySpace
Music mostly benefits major label artists looking to monetize what they had been providing for free.

Not that we think anything is wrong with this, but if as an indie artist you were hoping for cool
new features or promo tools that would help elevate your music above the MySpace pack, we're sorry to dissappoint you.  For now, you can continue use MySpace to hit up your friends for page views, plays, and the occasional paid download... (The tour date feature has always been cool, too).
