With the release of the "EVOL" EP, Robin & Robin brings a new feel to a clashing of genres. Lush natural and digital instrumentation, an edgy hip hop vocal approach , and strong pop elements throughout, the record boasts the aesthetic of indie pop anthems. Though the songs are diverse from one another, there is a glue that holds it all together much like a concept album would. Most importantly, the record never loses sight of the emotional platform great songs are built from.
The first single, “Just A Dream”, is an instant dream pop classic, complete with a bopping rhythm, key hooks, and musical swells, the song seems to breathe and build as it plays on.
“The music of the song is very fun sounding and it is easy to dance to. So musically, it’s fun and if people want to listen to it because it sounds fun then that’s great. But if you dig into the lyrics, there is the theme of wanting to be happy surrounding that song and that is really what the song is about. There’s a few points in the song where I’ll talk about my frustrations sometimes with the lyrical content of popular music and me not wanting to sell out. But ultimately everything in the song just comes back to wanting to be happy.” explains songwriter Ryan Reilly of his single.
Although the single does speak volumes for the EP, to get a real understanding of where Robin & Robin is coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.
Robin & Robin was a project started in the summer of 2016 when songwriter Ryan Reilly decided he wanted to put a band together. He began recording songs written, produced and performed by himself and ended up churning out something unique. Without trying to do it, he became a solo artist and decided to see where it went from there. First, the No One Will Hear This EP was released in early 2017 and he's back in the same year with another EP that truly epitomizes where the artist is.
As Reilly himself puts it “These songs saved my life. And I plan on spreading this medicine with people that need it.”
EVOL will become available on October 31st for streaming and downloads on most major digital outlets and the songwriter continues to work on new material for upcoming releases as he books gigs.
